Students from Cromer Academy took home the winners’ trophy after secondary schools across Norfolk and Suffolk came together for a celebration of sporting excellence.

The Cromer team took first place at the Inspiration Trust’s biggest ever Champions Day, held on Tuesday, June 26 at the UEA Sportspark.

More than 400 athletes from Jane Austen College and The Hewett Academy in Norwich, Hethersett Academy, Cromer Academy, Thetford Academy, East Point Academy in Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth Charter Academy, and Trafalgar College in Great Yarmouth took part in a day of track and field events.

Students pitted their prowess against each other in events including individual and relay races, long and high jump, javelin, shot putt, and discus.

Cromer Academy received their trophy from sprint athlete Nick Leavey, who’s represented Great Britain at the European Championships and Commonwealth Games.

Hethersett Academy came in second with Thetford Academy in third place.

Organiser Ben Atkins from Jane Austen College said: “Thank you to all eight secondary schools for attending.

“This was a fantastic celebration bringing the best athletes from across the Trust together for our biggest ever sporting event.

“Thank you also to Nick Leavey for kindly presenting the winners with their trophy.”
